Angry Man Heralds Amazing Future For Music

A musician angry about greed, corruption and incompetence in the record industry has reached his nirvana – creating a web-based haven – heralding a new era for the music business.

Paul Campbell, from Newcastle Upon Tyne, is about to launch a ‘rock n roll’ revolution the culmination of his burning desire to make music fairer and more accessible for up and coming artists.

Lack of judgement, greedy executives, contracts stifling creativity, illegal piracy, luddite practices have all played their part in putting the traditional album and single sellers on ‘life support’.

And now the plug is about to be pulled!

The new version of amazingtunes.com, which goes live this week under the banner ‘The Music You Are About To Love’, amasses three years of research and development that will breathe new life in to the business.

“The record industry is dead. …Long live music!” said Paul Campbell.

Campbell, who joined the Musician’s Union at the age of 13, and toured the UK during his teens, became the youngest ever staff producer at the BBC,

He went on to produce youth and music programmes for the Channel 4 and BBC TV including Big World Café, the seminal world music programme.

Paul made it his mission to build a web space that would truly serve the modern musician and music lover.

“I couldn’t stand by and do nothing any longer,” said Paul, “ I had a burning desire to use my experiences on both sides of the industry to bring about a long awaited revolution.

“Many are trying to administer CPR to the record industry – but sometimes its kinder just to let something die.

“I’ve seen the industry up close and personal – and it ain't pretty. They smell of decay has been there for years. It is full of people that love sex, drugs – but the music is often overlooked.”

There are a number of sites that offer elements of progress but amazingtunes.com brings them all together.

“Disparate bodies are providing some of the above – but we are the only people offering ALL these elements.

Campbell, aged 48, produced a number of hit TV and radio music programmes, including Channel 4’s Big World Café.

The site – which offers 70 percent of download revenues to unsigned artists – is a haven for those that want to discover new music for themselves and don’t want a record company filter to determine what makes it to the market.

Music lovers can review tunes, create radio shows, and send track links to friends and colleagues all free of charge. They are only asked to make a modest payment if they should download tracks for ipod or computer use.

Campbell has built a small but dedicated team to help make the musical milestone become a reality.

MD Simon King, and online Development Director Lee Duddell, who have worked on a number of high profile online product launches have been joined by award winning radio marketer Caroline Duff from The Guardian Media Group.

The organisation, based in Newcastle Upon Tyne, has already amassed more than 2,000 new tracks from unsigned artists across the continents.

“We launched a Beta version of the site to test the water,” said Paul. “The response was nothing short of miraculous. Every morning we would come in to find that word had spread and highly talented artists were uploading tracks left right and centre.

“From that moment on we knew we had a hit on our hands – it was just a matter of taking our time, listening to the feedback and building a site which will stand the test of time.”

Further innovations are already in the pipeline with enhanced functionality and new tools to give music fans a real treat.

Paul Campbell is available for interview.
