ARTIST Albany

Albany

ALBANY began life as an acoustic duo based in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, because Guy and Charlie found that playing music was much more fun than going to lectures. During this time the foundations were laid for what was to become a formidable song writing partnership. Over time, this has developed into a genuinely exciting, melody-driven sound, which perfectly balances alternative authenticity with commercial appeal. Drawing on a range of influences encompassing Elbow, Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, Muse, Coldplay and Turin Brakes, Albany have created a truly unique sound. Combining intricate piano arpeggios and thoughtful guitar arrangements, driven by a powerful yet focused rhythm section, Albany manage to stand out in a scene currently over-saturated with guitar bands. The interplay between piano and guitar is used to intelligent effect to accompany the distinctive pairing of two lead vocalists and layered harmonies. The dynamic between Guy and Charlie’s song writing makes for a substantial collection of diverse songs, that demonstrate versatility but also a purposeful musical direction. Since relocating to London and becoming a 4-piece, their live shows have seen them evolve into a high-energy rock pop outfit. Whilst remaining true to their melodic sensibilities, as evident in their most recent EP ‘Only From This Distance’, Albany now combine the vibrant energy of an exhilarating new band together with their long-established song writing integrity. This relationship is fundamental to their sound. “boundless energy and impact...instantly memorable” - BBC Club Live “superb…captivating and ingenious” - Evening Chronicle “huge, irresistible choruses and soaring harmonies…Albany will give you goosebumps and make the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end” - Get Rhythm 2 magazine “exciting and original in the true sense of the word… Albany are going to go very far” – Pulp magazine
