Dumb Instrument is the brainchild of composer and lyricist Tom Murray and are impossible to pigeonhole into one particular genre although "Jakey rock" would be a decent attempt. Its "all about the lyrics" (Daily Record 16/12/05) with Dumb Instrument and these are enriched with simple yet poignant accompaniment from piano, fiddle and bass. The songs are tinged with melancholy, like life, but are by no means downbeat because they often have a comedy twist. The band formed immediately prior to the May 2006 T break showcase event at Edinburgh's Liquid room and earned great reviews being described as "a breath of fresh air" (Fiona Reid) by T break journalists. Since then the band has appeared at Glasgow's Classic Grand venue as part of BBC2's The Music Show battle of the bands and have been a featured artist at King Tut's 'Your Sound'. The band will soon be announcing a host of gigs to celebrate the release of the bands first EP 'Songs Ya Bas'.
