Durban Poison

In November 2004, at the tender age of only 16, Durban Poison travelled up to the capital The Scala to be precise, where they promptly won the London heat of the Global Battle of the Bands, defeating 18 other bands on the night. They had been together for only 4 months. A fortnight later, at London?s Mean Fiddler, they came third in the National Final before a wild capacity crowd. These two gigs remain etched on their minds, as they marked the start of an epic journey that has taken them from obscurity to the brink of stardom. Durban Poison are proud to announce the release of their debut single, Pushing You Away. With its raw, infectious riffs, driving grunge beat and powerfully melodic hooks, this contemporary rock anthem is a sure-fire crowd-pleaser, already a stonewall favourite among the band?s ever-expanding army of dedicated fans. Written at a time when lead singer and songwriter Tate, found himself caught up in the ugly politics of an early band reshuffle, Pushing You Away oozes raw emotion in its most creative and expressive form. ?Why am I pushing you all away?? Tate screams, gravel churning in his throat, his powerful, abrasive vocal reminiscent of Lennon, Cobain, Gallagher. The bitter lyric in stark contrast to the song?s upbeat, feel-good rhythm - perhaps the result of such mixed emotions felt by Tate at the song?s traumatic birth. But then, who really cares about that? The song rocks, and that?s what counts.
