The Lies And How We Told Them

London-based experimental/minimalist project, The Lies And How We Told Them is ?Kooky German? Robert Raths, who is so dedicated to the cause that he has replaced his head with a functional tv set on stage. It seems the only way to get our attention nowadays; outside of our homes. ?As we follow the one who sparkles the most, we are nothing but moths turning to ghosts... go! go! ghosts!?

Lyrically Raths not only harshly criticises the impact of the media but also the indifference and misguidance of a generation of loners as a sad and bitter result. If you listen out carefully, you can even hear the clanging of forks and knives in the background.

'There's a real "pumping-finger-in-the-air" element to this band ala Arcade Fire and Hope of the States. In this day and age, it's almost impossible to find that comfortable medium of enough pop for uncultured music listeners, while still holding on to some artistic originality.' ?? N/A Reviews (USA)

?An up and coming British band. With a sound that echoes Radiohead, Sigur Rós, Jeff Buckley and a bit of Arcade Fire, the band surge with emotional energy. With characteristic vocals and a wonderfully lush production this band will definitely be one to watch in the coming months.? ? Rough Trade

?The Lies' aren't your live energetic band with high jumps and head shakes, they are a band that make you stand with your mouths slightly akimbo with small amounts of drool seeping into the corners. They make your head spin with vocals and ambient guitars that make you fly to the moon and back, in time to catch the songs sudden lift off, into a more powerful stance.? ? First Live Music Magazine

?Whilst hanging precariously off a cliff by a line of thread, The Lies And How We Told Them delicately catch a breeze that carries them away with their emotive pop songs that adopt a tone similar to Engineers, Verve and Jeff Buckley.? ? 93 Records

Influences: People are influenced by their surroundings. London is famous for leading children from their homes, to retain its role as a leading financial centre in Europe. We just can't help but wonder which corporations are gonna be able to afford all these cold, steel grey buildings. It's just a matter of time 'til burnt out double-deckers and abandoned underground stations will be included in the tourist guide. How can this not influence your music? We just feel more related to bands like Arcade Fire and Godspeed You! Black Emperor as they come from a city that, apart from its cheap rent & sex clubs, is mainly famous for Celine Dion. Dec and Rob read books by Orwell, Marx, Bradbury, Coelho, Camus & Kafka. Nothing inspires one more to write a soundtrack than Kubric films. We all listen to different music by Björk, Sigur Rós, The Notwist, Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, The Mars Volta, Pink Floyd, The Flaming Lips, Tschaikowsky, Miles Davis, Four Tet, Mogwai, Owen's Final Fantasy, Conor's Bright Eyes and our comrades from Aparatec, Codes In The Clouds and From The Sky.
