ARTIST Final Coil

Final Coil

Final Coil is essentially the brain child of founding member Phil Stiles and his long-haired hippie guitarist Richard Awdry. Playing a wide variety of styles from punk to pop, avante-garde to metal, Final Coil try to incorporate a huge range of influences without sounding disjointed or forced. The duo have been working together for almost five years and have recruited many different musicians at different times either for recording or live gigs. Final Coil have recorded two records so far - the 2005 album "Endless Lack Of Reason" and the 2006 EP "Preparing For Terror". The latter was a far more coherent record than the former and is described by Phil as "a mix of The Cure, Sonic Youth and Alice in Chains". Currently on a hiatus from playing live (while Phil finishes a year-long teaching contract in Poland) the band are working on new songs for an EP to be recorded in summer 2008 and followed by a few live acoustic dates. Long-term plans include the recruitment of a live band and a full length album over the following two years.

Influences: Sonic Youth, Swans, Alice in chains, Metallica, NIN, Nirvana, Machine Head, Pink Floyd, Refused, Blur, Butthole Surfers, Levellers, Low, Spiritualized, Leftfield and The Cure.
