Nice music dude, I'm feeling it! - Michael Fugitt check out my page if you get a second.
Judah, Wizdom, Wei, 3rd Son and DJ Secret Weapon are GreenJade, the UK’s premier “Tru-Skool” Hip-Hop group, born and bred in South London.
GreenJade have been ripping up stages all over the world for the past decade, unleashing positive music into the lives of the young and the young at heart. Their lively, energetically charged, humorous live stage performances have made GreenJade one of the most sought after Hip-Hop groups in the country.
All members of this unique hip hop group are proudly Christian based, but GreenJade do not describe their music as being Gospel. They are ‘Tru Skool’ - neither old nor new school. ‘Tru-Skool’ identifies those who live what they rhyme, are true to their art form and their belief’s and who school their listeners with the unadulterated truth. ‘Tru-Skool’ represents the generation that chooses openness and honesty in the face of materialism and lies.
GreenJade originally began life as a dance troop under the name “Poetic Justice” in the early 90’s, and then became the “Green Jade Sect” in 1992. The name was suggested by Wei and inspired by a Kung Fu movie. Within 2 years the crew began to grow, swelling to over 25 members. Unfortunately, personal issues with people external to the troop led to much unrest. This all changed when one of the members involved became a Christian. This dramatic lifestyle change began a dialogue which affected the entire crew and ended with 15 members also becoming Christians.
In 1996, GreenJade was reborn and refocused; dropping the Sect, the definition of their name had also changed.
Green - meaning healing, rejuvenation, rebirth.
Jade (Jaded) - to be worn out, knackered, disreputable.
GreenJade - the rejuvenation of the disreputable.
Since 1996 GreenJade have been performing in schools, hospitals, colleges, clubs and prisons promoting the ’Tru-Skool’ mantra.
The launch event for their debut album “Chronicles: The Story So Far…” album was held at the filled-to-capacity Brixton Fridge with excited fans packed in to see the Jade unveil their debut album. The Fridge event is still considered as one of the best UK Hip hop events to be held in London, ever!
Since the full release of their “Chronicles: The Story So Far” album in November 2003, GreenJade have taken their brand of Hip Hop to a new level and have been exposed to a far wider audience and were even invited to perform as part of the opening celebration of the Olympics in Omonia Sq, Athens in 2004.
In August 2005 the group released a compilation album of tracks recorded with other artists called “The Nu Jerusalem Project Vol.1” which features “One Voice, One Heart”, a Christian Tsunami relief track to raise money for a village in India devastated by the disaster. Also featured on “The Nu Jerusalem…” is the remix to UK Gospel group Siani’s single “Love Is!”, a #1 single on the UK Blues & Soul chart.
GreenJade are award winners, picking up a UK Hip-Hop Award, presented by Jamelia, at a prestigious ceremony in London in 2001.
The Jade are also part of a wider collective called, ZioNNoiz who have been making a splash on the UK underground Hip Hop scene. They have performed under this guise at the first Urban Music Festival, and have released the video to track “& What!” on Channel U. The track also made it onto the first Channel U compilation album in 2004.
In mid 2006 GreenJade released “Gunz Down”, a single launched to support their national anti gun & knife crime tour in conjunction with youth charity XLP. The CD includes the stunning animated video which was playlisted on MTV Base and a documentary about the tour. The tour aims to educate children in the UK about the ever-growing dangers of carrying knives and firearms.
GreenJade will be re-releasing a remixed version of “Gunz Down” in the run up to the release of their 3rd album, “LIFE As We Know It”, due March 2008. Meanwhile, “Gunz Down” is gaining great airplay, winning over the playlisting panel who voted it ‘record of the week’ for 3 weeks in a row on Choice FM!
GreenJade will continue in its endeavours to secure its position in the music industry as an instrument of ‘Tru Skool’ Hip Hop! In the midst of much uncertainty and fear, the ‘Jade aim to continue to be a light in dark places, for and on behalf of Hip-Hop culture.
