Hannah And The Heartbreak was formed from the Collaboration of Hannah Bristow and Levi Szendro. It began with Hannah Bristow who has been a singer and songwriter for almost ten years, with music being one of her earliest passions. She was born in London and grew up in Bristol as the child of a violin restorer and a dance teacher. Having listened to Carole King, Aretha Franklin and Roberta Flack from an early age, Hannah first showcased her voice in a debut gig at the age of 16, supporting the famous songwriter Roger Cook, whose songs have been recorded by prominent artists such as Elton John and Deep Purple. Hannah later visited Roger in his hometown in Nashville, where she first indulged in the world of professional musicianship by being introduced to BMI and ASCAP. Her studio experience began when she was 17, working with her first producer John Muspratt, a friend of Portishead’s Beth Gibbons. This then would lead onto sharing stages with the likes of Keane and Martina Topley Bird. With a collection of breathtaking, modern folk songs in her pocket,Hannah And The Heartbreak have been establishing themselves as a band in London since the beginning of this year. Hannah found the perfect accompaniment to her sound in the shape of co-musicians Levi Szendro (keys & drums) who studied contemporary percussion in London. They have just mastered the EP at Abbey Road Studios, the final touch to their phenomenal EP. Together the band are taking their music into innovative territories, creating a unique blend of rock, pop and folk, with influences from Fleetwood Mac, Feist, Bon Iver and Cat Power in the context of the 21st century. March 2010 will be marked by an EP launch. Hannah And The Heartbreak's EP, will be a preview of Hannah’s full length album “Role Play”, due to be released in late 2010. Gigs around Europe and selected festival appearances in the UK are also in the pipeline this year.
An early interest in poetry has led to well constructed and poignant lyrics with a sense of humour. Growing up listening to 60s and 70s soul records and classic jazz icons such as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Peggy Lee, and more mainstream influences such as The Animals, Buddy Holly, Carole King, Gladys Knight, has led Hannah to a diverse concoction of influences in her writing.
