Kuai Zi ( ‘kwai dz3: ) BLUES | ROCK | HIPHOP Kuai Zi was formed out of necessity from the Beijing live music scene and has since infected the globe with its feel good energy and worldly appeal. Front man Skott Taylor (Vancouver Island, Canada) and lead guitarist Mike/Noah (Shrewsbury, UK) first met in 2003 playing at Beijing’s only Open Mic, which was founded and hosted by Skott at the now famous Lush Café/Bar in Wu Dao Kou. Soon they found themselves playing their unique style of Blues Rock Hip Hop to a packed house every week and came to the realization that their music and following had become bigger than the acoustic duo could have ever imagined. Setting off to London in 2007, they hoped to find the missing members and take their music to the next level. Upon arriving in London, Skott and Mike/Noah set out and established themselves on the London Open Mic circuit, playing as much and as often as they could in hopes of meeting any potential new band mates. In time they met up with an old Beijing friend, Gilo “DJ DMT” Cheney (Hong Kong S.A.R.) who was more than up for throwing down some bass lines and filling out the sound. Through Gilo, Ric Nash (Edinburgh, Scotland) was introduced and the final piece to the Kuai Zi puzzle was found. Ric, who was a student at London’s S.O.A.S. University, also has ties to China having spent a year studying in China’s capital. Taking from a number of influences and musical styles ranging from Rock to Blues to Reggae to Hip Hop, Kuai Zi has a style that’s hard to peg down. They have been compared to the likes of Jack Johnson, Weezer, Beck and Dave Matthews Band but definitely have a style of their own. BBC Radio has described them as “{insert quote here}”. Drawing heavily on their live performance upbringing, Kuai Zi delivers a high-energy show, diverse in style, which gets the crowd on their feet.
