From the nightlife of the dance scene and five talented, sexy and opinionated singer/songwriter performers: Private Joy was born. All hailing from different parts of the GTA; Peter, Dean, Frank, Edi and Adrien, merged to carve out a path for what, they hope, will be just one of many queer mainstream acts to come. Hitting every end of the sonic and musical spectrum, their first record promises to be a complete eye opener. The mantra “straight, gay, don’t matter… love is love baby”, is something they not only slyly suggest in their smash-hit “Ra-Ra”, but live out in their daily lives. The gents, all being friends before the birth of the project, decided one day that if they were going to continue their critique of the social and musical world they had better do something to help better it. The idea of five empowered, talented, outspoken and happy young gay men seemed to be unheard of in the industry. But after having been encouraged by friends and peers alike, they came to the realization that this was an integral perspective that hadn’t really been touched in mainstream music. So they took it upon themselves to ‘start the fire’ and get the ball rolling. Everything you see and hear is made in house when it comes to Private Joy. The songs were all written by the boys, production was done by the boys as well as choreography, concepts, vocals and images… you name it - they did it. Not many can boast such a claim, when they were able to miraculously whip together their 10 song debut in little under a month and a half. The world has heard many songs and many stories, but this one is brand new. Heartfelt and uncompromising approaches to lyrics, music and dance, all help Private Joy in their pursuit to “Break the Lines” while opening minds, warming hearts, and helping you shake dat ass on the dancefloor!
