I write songs at the piano because I love love love it and it's a more difficult and more satisfying thing than anything I've ever done. Then, last year, after playing in bands and being mired in student debt, I got hit over the head on the bad old streets of London's New Cross. Ouch. But, violent crime has it's compensations because you get, [drum roll...] compensation. Super! So, I rented an old radio station, borrowed a drum kit from a mate and recorded an album. Bingo! And a couple of friends lent their ears and skills and somehow from daily ten minute practice sessions as a small boy timed by my mum's kitchen pinger, an extended run in with an eighties pop star, and getting over excited by every tune I've ever loved, comes my first album. Hope you like it.
Influences: Stevie Wonder. Sanseverino. Blur. Jarvis Cocker. The Gorillaz. I like Damon Albarn. Ella Fitzgerald. Billy Holiday. Frank Sinatra - the man could sing. Just recently, Tom Waits. Outkast. The Beatles (sorry - it''s boring but it's true). Q-Tip. Rage Against The Machine. Big, cheesy, glossy American singles by people like Beyonce and Britney. So shoot me. Beck. Bill Withers. The Blues Brothers. Bobby Womack's Accross 110th Street. The Fugees' The Score. Hank Mobley. Jeff Buckley. You've stopped reading now so I'll just say anything you hear and love and think, shit, I'd love to write/play something half as good as that.
