The Secret History

'The Secret History' are a four piece band from the Northeast. They formed when drummer Mike joined previous 'Entanglement' members Richie, Andy and Euan. The transition from Entanglement to The Secret History was fairly seemless with the best of the old material kept and 'Virgin on Legal' (subsequently chosen as the title track of their self produced debut album) and 'HMS Irrelevance' re-written. The bands textured sound is created by the close interplay between guitar, piano and bass, with Euans Rickenbacker bass often taking the role of a second guitar. Adding Richies sweeping vocal melodies to this creates the sound The Secret History are known for. A considerable dynamic range is found between lighter more melodic songs such as 'The Beginning' and heavier tracks such as 'I Need Your Fix'. But probably more memorable from their music is the contrast in dynamics within individual tracks – highlighted no more clearly than in their debut album title track 'Virgin On Legal'. The summer of 2007 was spent creating the album 'Virgin On Legal'. Recording and producing the album themselves allowed the band to explore their creativity. The sound is coloured by the addition of violin, cello and trumpet as well as stunning vocals from Lucy Read (featured in 'The Beginning' and 'Aberdeen'). The album can now be sampled and bought from www.thesecrethistory.co.uk .
